Art Prize! Art Prize!

24 Hour News Team 8's Chief Political Reporter Joe LaFurgey gets the scoop on ArtPrize from creator Rick "Members Only" DeVos.  After hearing all about this soon to be breaking news from Suzanne Geha and reading a few articles, I still can't really figure this thing out.   I may have to get Target 8 investigative reporter Henry Herb on this one.  However, it seems like this could be a cool deal for Grand Rapids.

Downtown with Lindsay and Chris

Chris, Lindsay and Laura lead the way down Lyon towards downtown.  Just four months earlier I strapped on a buzz and my skis and cruised down this very same sidewalk.  I was going to take it down the center of the road but the two feet of fresh snow had just been plowed.

Laura patiently waits as I lag behind taking pictures

Chris and Lindsay settling in to an evening of stump the mediocre cover band, laughs and bruises.  Actually there were no bruises but there was a bar fight that nearly spilled over into our viewing area.

Chris learning my favorite bar trick

The beautiful campus of GRCC on the way back up the hill.  It used to be JC for me.  (in Tom Brokaw voice)  Conveniently located close to major transportation arteries, the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse is a multi-purpose venue well equipped for banquets, trade shows, small conventions, entertainment and sporting events.  Lets go live to White House correspondent Jim Miklaszewski awaiting.......

Not sure what was going on here

University of Michigan Spring Football Contest

Tate at the helm

A great crowd estimated over 50,000 took in the scrimmage.

I lived in this house from 1 to 3 years of age.  Looks like some new age hippies live there now.

Yes Michigan!

Good thing I looked before I ate.

Attention U.S. prison system, you just got served!

You can't beat Thriller, but I'm a sucker for the opening track of the Pointer Sister's 1983 album, Break Out:  Jump (For My Love).

If you would like to learn more about why they are doing this, check this out.

Sazerac Lounge

Just down the road from Red Ball Jet is Sazerac Lounge.  It is one of my favorite bars in Graps.  It is the only bar I know of with table tennis.  That's Arkansas Paul above involved in a heated battle.  On this night I went 4 wins and 1 loss.  Sazerac also has a great juke box, ample seating and cheap tall boys of PBR.

1 year!

Laura and I returned to the scene of our first date one year later.  The Red Ball Jet is a cool little cafe that features Grap's most authentic crepe selection - sweet and savory.  It resides inside the old Creston Library on Plainfield NW.   Check this blog for an explanation of what Red Ball Jets are.  After we took this picture we drove across town to one of our other favorite spots for dinner.

Driving on a lake

One more thing I can cross off my to do list.   Earlier this winter while heading up to ski at Caberfae, I told my Scottish friend that people drive on lakes in Michigan.  Next thing you know he takes his truck right past a sign reading "no motor vehicles on lake" and onto the ice of Lake Cadillac.  After a few minutes of cruising, I saw open water about 75 yards ahead at which point we quickly did a u-turn and exited the lake.  Good times!
