Laura and I spent a fantastic weekend up north skiing with friends. We stayed in an amazing cottage on the coast of Lake Michigan about 10 miles north of Harbor Springs. (see the red dot)
This is the view looking southwest from the cabin. The land you see in the distance is the southern edge of Little Traverse Bay. At the tip of that land mass you can see the power plant in Charlevoix.
Here is the view due West. In this picture you can see Beaver Island on the right side of the horizon. This was the clearest weekend I have ever seen in these parts during the winter. Unbelievable weather all weekend!
This is pretty much the same view but it shows a portion of the endless steps to the beach. I was the first to head down to explore the lake Saturday morning and probably in weeks. The steps were covered in untouched snow.
South down the beach. There were no human footprints to be found, but plenty of animal tracks. 200 ft. cliffs to one side and the frozen lake on the other no signs of civilization for miles. Near silence accept for the gentle sound of small icebergs bumping together. I have a video that may help explain the feeling - I hope to post it soon.
Looking North.
I really wanted to hop onto these things. The sun was so warm, the water so clear and inviting, I kinda wish I would have jumped in for a spell.
Beaver Island
Looking back at Petoskey and Charlevoix from Pintail Peak at Nubs Nob. I have never seen Charlevoix from Nubs before. I also finally saw the towers of the Mackinac Bridge from front side of Nubs.
Looking back at Nubs Nob from what I believe is the Challenger lift. Perfect conditions again.
The Mackinac Bridge from Boyne.
After a slow start to the day, we were glad we decided to stop at Boyne. We were able to buy two lift tickets for $29 thanks to my parents and a promotion at Shell gas stations.
There were some big cracks in the ice so we just took a few photos and hit the road. The ice was actually safe I'm sure.
Great snaps. How was the apres ski?
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos!
ReplyDeleteReally amazing! Thanks for posting those snaps! I wish I was there right now!
ReplyDeleteThe apres ski was sensational. Live music, burgers, beers, sun, aviators.... it had everything.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the Marlboro man?
ReplyDeleteHe was not in the house, but I am pretty sure his brother was there. Looked just like him and dressed just like him (same aviators)
ReplyDeleteIf he looked and dressed just like him, how do you know it wasn't him? Was he smoking lights?
ReplyDeleteThose are some great pics. The trip looks like it was tons-o-fun.
ReplyDeleteIf you photo shop some polar bears onto those little icebergs you could make your own Noah Wiley commercial about how global warming is killing all the polar bears.
